Inkberry bushes have a woody structure and small, oval shaped leaves. They retain their leaves throughout the winter. These bushes can be found in both upland and swampy environments.
The inkberry leaves can resemble 'cat ears' with their pointed leaves that point upwards toward the sun. They grow in both dry and moist soils and their leaves lose color by turning yellow or white during spring.
